RAIDERS PLAYERS

Fernando Mendoza, QB

(On what his first NFL game experience was like…)

“It wasn’t a great experience because of the overall outcome. I wanted to do my part any way I could help the team. I was called upon and I really appreciate all my teammates, especially some of the stars going out there, still having a fight to win and a fight and a fighting effort. So I really appreciate all those guys putting their best effort for that last drive.”

(On any messages the coaches had before going out there…)

“Yeah, one thing that Coach [Mike] Sullivan, Coach [Andrew] Janocko, Coach [Klint] Kubiak always emphasizes is staying engaged in the game, whether it’s every single play call comes in the headset, making sure I’m reading out the play call or repeating it to Coach Sullivan, going through the reads and making sure that I’m ready to go at any point in time, just as a straight service to the team. So, that’s something that I was doing, along with throws. I helped Kirk [Cousins] get warmed up before every drive, and so naturally, that also helps my arm stay ready as well.”

(On his relationship with Coach Sullivan…)

“Oh, Coach Sullivan, I mean, I love Coach Sullivan. He’s been such a great mentor to me, and has accelerated my football career, light years, and what if I ever could have imagined the way that he’s very process oriented, takes extra time to meet with me. And we spend so much time in the quarterback room, one-on-one time, time with other quarterbacks at practice that it’s been a special relationship, and I look forward to learning from him because he’s just a well of knowledge.”

Maxx Crosby, DE

(On anything in particular that they did up front to keep you guys away from the QB…)

They did a good job. They chipped, and they chipped a lot. Long passes, got the ball out of his [Drake Maye’s] hand quick and did a good job. Doing well on early downs so that we can’t just gear up and rush. They cut us out.”

(On Klint Kubiak’s message after the game…)

“It is one week at a time, you know and that is how this league is. You’ve just got to respond, and that’s all you can do. We have to get better from it. We’ve got to learn from it. They just, they outplayed us in all three phases, and that’s how you lose games on the road. So yeah, we’ll learn from it.”

(On what he told the team as veteran leader…)

“It is process-oriented. You could feel like you’re the best team in the world in one week, and the next week, it could be real tough. But that’s not this locker room. That is not the guys that we’ve got. It’s just about getting better, and we’re all going to look in the mirror. It is going to take every single one of us, and we’ve just got to improve.”
