Colts Players Postgame Transcripts 8/13
COLTS PLAYERS
Riley Leonard, QB
(On his experience in the game)
“I just got to take the film, look at it and see what you learn. You know, obviously disappointed, but you can reflect on a lot of things, right? Going against a different defense for the 1st time. I think when we’re running our plays against our own defense, you throw a lot of the same routes. Well, I can’t look at it. I can’t get used to throwing certain routes. You play a completely different defense. So, taking each play as it is. Understanding what routes work against certain coverage’s that we might not have seen yet would be important for me to dive into going into this next game.”
(On his opportunity next week)
“You got to live with the past, but look forward to getting the practice and learning from my mistakes, making up for it. A little sloppy, so I’m just excited to get back out there, redeem myself, and just kind of get back into a rhythm.”
(On Will Mallory)
“He’s a friendly target. He’s a big guy. He understands space, extremely fast. Right place at the right time. He’s always just coming through, making big catches for us. They see that in practice all the time, any ball, any high-ball, he’s usually the guy to come down with it. So, he’s built a lot of trust with us the past few weeks.”
Mo Alie-Cox, TE
(On training camp)
“Individually you just try to come into training camp and get that good work in. You’ve got to get your body going and as an offense just get your flow. Get your initial offense and try to be as productive as you can every day when you come out to practice. As a team you just build chemistry day in and day out. You get to know each other more and build on what you did in OTAs. The young guys get a lot of reps in the games, getting that game experience. You are going to need those young guys when the season comes.”
(On joint practices)
Joint practice is helpful, super helpful. It is pretty much a game because we’re getting 60 plus plays and multiple practices against other teams. It is good to get different looks. You go against your own defense every day and you kind of get comfortable going against them because you know what they are going to do. You get to a joint practice, and you get different looks. You have to make adjustments like it’s a game. It’s definitely welcoming to have joint practices. We are all together as one and it is good to just go against another team and have that friendly banter. Guys get after it.
Dalton Tucker, G
(On joint practices)
“It was good. It is always good to go up against someone else during camp. It gets us ready for the game.”
(On tonight’s game)
“There is a lot of stuff we need to work on. I know this team and I know we are going to get right back to work and keep doing every little thing that we need to continue to get better.”
(On the team so far)
“We have to continue to keep growing. It’s about the little things and finding a way to keep getting better and better. I feel like, with the group that we have here, that is what we are going to do. We’ll put our heads down and get back to work.”
Caden Curry, DE
(On his sack)
“I was just going out there, doing my job. When your number is called, make a play. Rushing inside or outside, probably getting a matchup that was a one on one. I was out there trying to win my one on one, obviously it happened quick and then make sure I didn’t lose him.”
(On what he wanted to show tonight)
“My motor, versatility and run sideline to sideline.”
Spencer Shrader, K
(On the 61-yard kick)
“I was trying to think that it wasn’t a huge kick. I was trying to treat it like it was another extra point. Just follow my process, keep my head down, and have a good day today. So, I was really just trying to stay in rhythm and a tempo. Went out there and hit it, and obviously felt pretty good.”
(On the competition and staying focused)
“It’s really difficult. There’s been a lot of ups and downs. I think earlier, I had some good days, and then recently, I’ve had some really tough days in camp, where I’m missing kicks, and trying to figure out if it’s… My leg is in my tempo, is in my rhythm. I think in those moments, I really just have to avoid the distractions and just focus on what is going right. So going into this game, I didn’t really feel like I had a lot of positive momentum, and I was like, ‘Well, none of that matters now. It’s a fresh day. It’s a new start.’ So I went out, and I was blessed to have a really good pre-game warm up. I was like, ‘I’m just going to do my best to carry that into the game. Keep your head down, follow through straight.’ You know Luke [Rhodes] and Rigo (Rigoberto Sanchez), those guys are professionals. The ball’s going to be there, so it’s really just up to me to put it through, and tonight I was able to do that, and tomorrow, it’s back to work.”
(On feeling more confident after tonight)
“I think the main thing it does is it lets you know that you’re capable of it. But that doesn’t mean that you can just go out and do it tomorrow. Like, it takes the same amount of preparation, hard work to get yourself there. So, it’s confidence-inspiring knowing that I’m capable of it, I can do it, and I showed it today. Now I just have to be able to do the same thing I did to get myself here, over and over and over throughout the preseason, throughout the regular season. So, the work’s not going to stop for sure, but today felt really good.”
